Nintendo Switch System Update 4.0 Brings GameCube Controller Support

For some reason, the latest update lets you use controllers from the 2001 console.

The most recent system update 4.0 for the Nintendo Switch brings yet another intriguing new feature. It’s been discovered that the update allows Nintendo GameCube controllers to connect to the Switch. Why? Well, why not?

It’s not a matter of simply plugging the GameCube controller in though. An adapter that was sold for the Wii U when New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii U released is necessary – this will plug into the Switch’s dock and the controller can then be paired with the console via the settings menu.

There are some downsides to this though. Since the Nintendo Switch has ZR and ZL buttons while the GameCube has only one Z button and no Home button, it’s kind of clunky to use. That being said, it’s still pretty cool. Other features that update 4.0 brought include a revamp of the News feed, the ability to transfer data, video capture support and support for wireless headphones.
