PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Single Player Campaign Currently Not Planned

Creator Brendan Greene clarifies that there's no time or resources to commit to single player.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

Earlier this year, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds creator Brendan Greene remarked about possibly looking into a single player campaign for the shooter. Given the game’s massive success, this wouldn’t be the strangest way to go. However, when speaking to GameSpot at PAX Australia, Greene noted that even after writing backstory for the game’s island, it was to provide reference points for the artists. An actual campaign won’t be happening for a while.

“Because of the lore of the island, there was an idea that I had for what I thought would be a pretty cool single-player [mode]. And even co-op single-player campaign. We have no resources. We have no time. We have no plans to add anything like this to the game. No, no single-player is coming to Battlegrounds.”

Again, one should never say never. Greene would like to look into the game’s lore some day but how that manifests remains to be seen. For now, it’s all about the competitive multiplayer.

Greene noted later in the interview that he’d like to add cross-play support with PC players when PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds arrives on Xbox One later this year. “Because the experience is going to be the same on both platforms, we really want these players to play together. How we do that fairly is another question.

“It’s something we’re looking into, but right now we don’t have anything to say about it. But we would like to see it happen. But how we do that requires a bit of work.”

Considering that developers like The Coalition and Psyonix have (somewhat) made this work with cross-play support for Gears of War 4 and Rocket League respectively, it certainly doesn’t sound impossible. Would you like cross-play support between PC and Xbox One players. Let us know below.
