Codemaasters took the stage at the Sony Paris Games Week conference show today to announce ONRUSH, a brand new action racing game that will be launching next year for the PS4 and Xbox One. However, this is probably one racing game that everyone wants to keep an eye on- it’s basically a Codemasters helmed modernization of the beloved Burnout concept and formula, emphasizing lots of speed, spectacle, over the top action, and just arcade style fun.
Much like in Burnout, ONRUSH players can use the speed and momentum of their cars to ram into their competition and wreck them right off the tracks.
ONRUSH Game Director Paul Rustchynsky said, “We are extremely excited to finally be able to talk about ONRUSH. The team grew up playing iconic, arcade racing games so it is great to have the opportunity to re-imagine those experiences on today’s consoles and bring something fresh to the market. We believe that it is something that gamers are crying out for.”
“The most important factor in the game is that it has to be fun. It is not about tire choices, car setups or even racing lines; it’s about edge of your seat action and taking death defying risks in order to reap the biggest rewards,” continued Paul.
Given just how beloved Burnout was, and that EA, of course, has killed the franchise and gutted the studio responsible for it, ONRUSH may be the closest we can get to the kind of exhilarating carnage and action that made Burnout so popular worldwide to begin with. The game is due out on PS4 and Xbox One in Summer 2018- make sure to watch the debut trailer for it below, for yourself.
