Capcom Confirms Commitment To Developing Games for Nintendo Switch

"Going forward we will support the Nintendo Switch."

Shockingly enough, Capcom- the publishers who have stood by Nintendo the most in the past, from Resident Evil on GameCube to Monster Hunter on Nintendo 3DS, have so far completely missed the boat on the Nintendo Switch, and failed to capitalize on its insane success (something that would have benefitted the financially ailing company).

However, Capcom has confirmed that that will change going forward. In a Q&A session with investors during a financial call, Capcom confirmed that it intends to support the Switch going forward, acknowledging its performance, and that it had a positive impact on the gaming market.

“We feel the favorable performance of the Nintendo Switch, and the impact it is having on reaffirming the status of home video game consoles, are very positive. Going forward we will support the Nintendo Switch based on our fundamental strategy of multiplatform development,” they said.

That said, even with the comment about supporting it via multiplatform game development, they revealed they do intend to leverage the hardware’s unique strengths and functionality- they just need time to evaluate the best way to do this (although you’d think they would have figured this by now, given that they were among the first publishers to get devkits).

“Further, we are cognizant of the need to evaluate further how to best utilize the unique features of this platform, which differ from those of other home video game consoles,” they said.

So far, Capcom has launched two games on the Switch- Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers and Monster Hunter XX (though the latter remained in Japan only), with Resident Evil Revelations and Revelations 2 coming up shortly. What kind of further support they plan for the system remains to be seen.
