Red Dead Redemption 2 Fans Are Already Trying To Estimate The Game’s Map Size

Safe to assume it's going to be massive.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a ways off from release yet, and even though we know very little of the game even now, fans are still incredibly excited about. That is, perhaps, nowhere more apparent than this fan-made thread on the GTA Forums. The thread is a massive collective effort on part of fans, which basically studies and analyses the two trailers and a handful of screenshots that have been released for Red Dead Redemption 2 so far, and by elaborately connecting the dots and matching the locations shown to their real-life counterparts, tries to chart the game’s entire map.

It’s an incredible effort indeed, and over the last few months, it’s grown in scope way more than one might imagine. The thread is a neat alternative to last year’s “leaked” map for the game, which was taken down soon after it went offline and is being considered by many fans and sources to be the real deal. Locations for the leaked map have often shown up in the trailers for the game, which makes people even surer of that fact.

As per the leaked map, Red Dead Redemption 2‘s map will be as large as 8.8 square miles, and while it’s considerably bigger than its predecessors map of 5.8 square miles, GTA V’s map of around 22.3 square miles seems gargantuan in comparison. It should be noted, though, that horses will be the primary mode of traversal in the game, and as such, travelling will be a lot slower, so you can expect the game to still feel quite large regardless.

That said, the purpose of the map is to discount the leak and work only on the basis of what fans have seen in the little footage of the game we have so far. And though it’s elaborate work, it’s actually pretty thorough- if you’re at all curious about the upcoming open world title’s map and what it will possibly include, you should give the thread a read.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is due to launch for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC later in 2018. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for continued coverage.
