Call of Duty: WW2 On Xbox One X Features 476% Increase In Peak Resolution Over The Xbox One

Head to head comparison between the Xbox One vs Xbox One X versions of Call of Duty WW2.

The Xbox One X is an extremely powerful system- a huge update in terms of hardware over the base Xbox One system, as well as over the PS4 and PS4 Pro. But specs alone are ultimately meaningless- the proof is in the pudding, as they say. What that means is, without having games that utilize that extra power meaningfully, the Xbox One X’s specs would amount to nothing.

Thankfully, it seems like the Xbox One X does have major games tapping into the additional resources it affords. Call of Duty: WW2, for instance, shows massive improvements on the Xbox One X over the base Xbox One. This is most evident in the resolution. While both versions use a temporal reconstruction technique that improves the resolution for parts of the frame that are similar to previous frames, the base console runs the game at a dynamic resolution ranging from 800×900 to 1600×900. The Xbox One X runs the game at a dynamic resolution too, but the range is a far higher 1440×2160 to 3840×2160 (that is a percentage increase of 332% at lowest and 476% at peak on the Xbox One X compared to the Xbox One).

Resolution is not the only improvement here, either- the Xbox One X version maintains its frame rate at a steady 60fps clip, while the base Xbox One version sees performance often drop to as low as 40fps. The screen tearing present in the game is far less pronounced on the Xbox One X compared to the Xbox One. Overall, we feel extremely comfortable pronouncing the Xbox One X version of the game as a generational leap over the Xbox One version.
