Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Is Nintendo’s Second Most Successful Mobile Game Launch Ever

Off to a good start- or is it?

Animal Crossing Pocket Camp

Nintendo launched their latest mobile game, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, a mobile game spin off based on the begging to be made into a mobile game franchise Animal Crossing, recently- and it has already become their second most successful mobile game launch ever, with 15 million installs worldwide in the first six days; this is ahead of the 8 million installs that Fire Emblem Heroes managed in a similar timeframe, but well behind the 32 million Super Mario Run managed.

Of course, Super Mario Run ended up failing in terms of adequately converting downloads to purchases- Fire Emblem Heroes, with far fewer downloads, actually ended up generating far more revenue for Nintendo.

So, how is Animal Crossing doing on this front? Early indications are mixed. The title is currently ranked 10 in Japan, having peaked at #5 on the revenue charts last week; in the US, it is currently ranked #72, so it has a long way to go. It may have a long tail, Nintendo games usually do. But, given how generous it is with giving players free play time and tokens, maybe many will not feel the need to actually spend money on it.
