While one early access PC darling is just launching on Xbox One in a few short weeks with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the developers of DayZ have renewed commitments to bring the popular survival game to consoles within the next calendar year.
Eugen Harton, Lead producer at Bohemia Interactive confirmed the plans on the game’s blog that they intend to satisfy the very large audience who’s been waiting for the zombie survival game for a long time. They’re done making excuses based on schedule mistakes and promise both the console ports and the game coming out of early access within 2018.
“As soon as the PC BETA is headed in a way we like, we’re still committed to bringing DayZ to Xbox, where we have a large community of gamers patiently (very patiently!) waiting for a truly hardcore online survival game. All of that will (and must) happen next year – meaning we’re just about to start what could possibly be the most exciting year for DayZ so far. In short: DayZ will be out of Early Access next year, and we’ll also finally deliver it to console players in 2018.”
“Make no mistake: this commitment is done taking all of our previous scheduling mistakes into the account. We’re serious about it.”
Console players have had a long wait to try out DayZ, the game first hit early access on Steam in 2013, with the first whispers of a PlayStation 4 port coming a year later and Xbox a year after that. Curiously, they seem to have dropped mention of a PlayStation 4 version in recent talks of the console port.
