Vive Exec Confirms Valve Is Still Developing VR Games for HTC Vive

"They are still committed to delivering on that promise.”

A long time ago, Valve used to make games. Now, it creates continual updates for its existing games, and is generally more concerned with managing the admittedly hefty work that comes with a storefront such as Steam, and less concerned with developing new titles. Earlier this year, long suffering Valve fans got a glimmer of hope when Valve CEO Gabe Newell suggested that the company would be developing new games for VR- but in typical Valve fashion, we proceeded to hear nothing about that after that.

However, those new games are still coming- at least, if Vive America exec Dan O’Brien is to be believed. Speaking  interview with Glixel, O’Brien confirmed that Valve remains ‘committed’ to delivering on its promise of bringing out new VR games- though, typically enough, he provides no timeframe for when those games might be expected.

“I manage the relationship with Valve. I meet with Valve weekly to talk about everything from what’s happening on new content launching to new product launches to new features and new functions. They are very committed; they are still committed to delivering on that promise.”

O’Brien also refused to comment on whether the new games would be new IPs, or based on existing Valve franchises- but at this point, any new game from the developer that even remotely resembles the kinds of experiences that made it so big to begin with would be appreciated. Hopefully we find out soon enough what they have cooking.

Who am I kidding, we’ll probably get a leak in 2025 confirming that the games have been cancelled.
