Soulcalibur 6 Currently Not Coming to Switch, Guest Fighters Discussed

Producer Motohiro Okubo is "interested" in Nintendo's platform though.

Soul Calibur 6

There were a number of amazing reveals at The Game Awards this year and while some were more impressive than others, Bandai Namco nearly stole the show by announcing Soulcalibur 6. The latest in the weapons-based fighting game hasn’t seen a sequel since Soulcalibur 5 in 2012 for Xbox 360 and PS3. So obviously this is a big deal.

The series has been known for its guest characters over the years, especially with more recent iterations having the likes of Darth Vader and Ezio Auditore from Assassin’s Creed. At some point they kind of stole attention away from the core fighting. Will we see more in Soulcalibur 6? Producer Motohiro Okubo discussed this with Metro UK and said that, “I do understand that the guest characters presence is quite big in the previous SoulCaliburs.

“In that sense I’m hoping to be able to introduce guest characters in this game, and to be able to surprise everyone…but I cannot say any more. [laughs]”

As for whether Soulcalibur 6 would ever come to the Nintendo Switch, Okubo said that, “SoulCalibur VI development started more than three years ago. And nobody knew anything about Switch back then. So, as a matter of fact we are not working on Switch, as of now. But of course, personally, I’m interested in the platform. So if the Unreal Engine can adapt to Switch, and evolve itself, then maybe the possibility will be more.”

It’s a harsh reality of many Unreal Engine 4 titles but you never knew. With enough time and effort, not to mention a few changes to the engine, we could be fighting on the stage of history on Nintendo’s console as well. Soulcalibur 6 is currently slated release in 2018 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
