Nintendo has announced today that its new hybrid console sensation, the Nintendo Switch, is now the fastest selling system of all time in the United States for its first ten months on the market. This means that the Switch has sold faster than the PS2, than the PS4, and than the Wii, even- and we all know how fast the Wii was selling.
In ten months, sales of the Nintendo Switch have reached more than 4.8 million units in the United States, which beats the previous record, which was held by the Wii. This points to a monstrously successful month by Nintendo in December, something we should be able to verify once the NPD results come in.
“Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go. Now that many more people have received Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America.
Of course, the Switch now has self-sustaining momentum, but Nintendo cannot afford to ease up on it, either- they need to continue with a stream of great games, much like in 2017, to keep it selling. That rumored January Nintendo Direct cannot come fast enough…
