It’s been a long time since Stardew Valley’s multiplayer mode was announced, though we received a few details on an upcoming PC beta for early 2018. Progress seems to be going well as creator Eric Barone tweeted about the joys of playing with four people on LAN. It sounds fun, for the most part, though Barone noted that it “still needs some work” despite the underlying network code being “solid”.
No further information was provided on when the PC beta would go live but it’s good to know that progress is being made. If you look closely, a text chat window and homes that allow for other players to take up residence on a farm can be seen in the tweeted image.
The multiplayer mode was meant to go into beta last year but was delayed for further polish. It will be a free update on all platforms, much like Stardew Valley’s other updates including the upcoming single-player content.
4-player Stardew Valley LAN party at my house… it's really fun. It still needs some work, but the underlying network code is solid. Being in the same room and yelling at each other about what to do next, or if anyone has any stone, is great fun. Can't wait to share this pic.twitter.com/Sjxyd712BK
