Konami Sees Strong Financial Report of Back of Video Games

Contrary to popular belief, Konami is still doing pretty well.

Revealing its financial results for the prior nine months ending with December 31st, Konami is having a banner year, and much of that is coming off of the mainstream games market. Yes, the one they reportedly once wanted to get out of.

This info comes through a press release which shows that the business for all segments is up year over year, with the segment breakdown outright stating that their “Digital Entertainment” (their mainstream gaming sector) business has been the largest driver. The “Gaming & Systems” segment which refers to their Pachinko and arcade machines saw far weaker performance. Their Digital Entertainment sector made 89.7 billion Yen compared to 73.7 billion Yen they made last year. Overall, total revenues were ¥178.7 billion compared ¥163.9 billion from last year.

Konami attributes the growth of its Digital Entertainment business to stable performance of PES 2018 and Super Bomberman R, as well as successful Mobile releases such as Yu-Go-Oh! Duel Links and PES Card Collection. Within their revised predictions for the next fiscal year, Konami only increased the revenue and profit predictions for the Digital Entertainment business, suggesting that they might be getting more serious again with the upcoming release of titles like Metal Gear Survive.
