A lot of people have been waiting for Monster Hunter World on Switch- after all, Nintendo platforms was where the franchise first found any measure of western success. However, the game began development long before the Nintendo Switch was a thing, and seems to have been tailored around the capabilities of the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
As a result, a straight Switch port of Monster Hunter World would be difficult, according to Capcom President and Chief Operating Officer Haruhiro Tsujimoto (translated by DualShockers). Tsujimoto said that the game was designed for the PS4 and Xbox One spec, which allowed it to be far more capable than the games on the PSP and 3DS prior to this one had been; the Switch, with its unique hardware, would require substantial reworking of the game for it to appear on it.
That said, all hope is not lost, because he also admitted that the future of Monster Hunter on Switch is in consideration, and that Capcom is aware of the demand for a new game in the series on Nintendo’s hybrid. Whether that ends up happening, however, remains to be seen.
