Ubisoft had opened up a new studio in Berlin last year. The goal behind setting up the studio was to attract talent from around Central and Eastern Europe. We had speculated that the new studio would be assisting with the new Far Cry game and this has been now been confirmed. The studio is  now helping out with the development of this year’s entrybut Ubisoft would like to make the studio much bigger if they receive tax breaks from the government.

There’s certainly the market and talent in Germany to warrant a place for a AAA developer and Ubisoft sees the possibility for growth in the country. The studio director Istvan Tajnay spoke to Gamesindustry.biz and stated, “Whether we grow to 100-plus, 150-plus, or far beyond that also depends somewhat on the development of the gaming ecosystem here in Germany. Mainly I’m talking about governmental support on the financial side.” If the parameters are right then, this small studio could grow to be one of Europe’s leading game developer studio. Ubisoft is also going to be making a concerted push along with German game trade unions for benefits such as tax breaks.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Ubisoft’s new studio, but as of now, the signs are positive for the growth of this studio.
