While we’re days out from the Nintendo Switch’s big first birthday, if some of you out there might have been holding out for some kind of XL or Lite style revision for the hybrid that’s setting the world on fire, you might be left out in the cold for awhile.
According to sources for the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo seemingly has no current plans to develop a revision to the hardware of any kind, at least right now. Console makers routinely start to think redesigns soon after a launch, to try to cut costs or just to refresh interest such as with the 4K revisions to PS4 and Xbox One. Nintendo however plans for peripherals and expanded network features to continue to push the current version.
Note that the peripherals they’re talking about specifically called out things that would connect to the USB-C port, so this is not just talking about Labo. Waiting longer before any serious revisions would also tie into a longer life cycle that President Tatsumi Kimishima also suggested the company was aiming for with the Switch. What kind of peripherals do you hope to see? Let us know in the comments below.
