Metro Exodus’ Amazing Ray Tracing Tech Shown Off In Demo

Your PC is already dead.

4A Games has been appearing a lot in gaming news lately, championing Metro Exodus as the next great PC benchmark game thanks to their love of blowing up graphics cards. While just earlier this week they announced their partnership with Nvidia to use RTX real time ray tracing technology, we’re now seeing a live demo to show off just how much of a difference it really makes.

Showing off the technique, which renders highly realistic lights and shadows, often used in movies but was too slow to use reliably in a game before now, the demo re-uses the environment first seen with the E3 Demo that debuted the game on Microsoft’s stage. It’s an effect best seen for yourself in the video below.

If you’re interested in some further reading on the subject, 4A’s Chief Technical Officer, Oleksandr Shyshkovtsov created an entire blog post which discusses how important dynamic lighting is to the Metro series and why this tech is important. Metro Exodus is expected to release in 2018 for PS4, PC and Xbox One.
