Monolith Productions is finally fulfilling a request that it’s fans have had since before Middle-Earth: Shadow of War released – it’s removing microtransactions and shutting down the in-game store. Microtransactions, represented by Gold that can be earned in-game or purchased with real money for obtaining different bundles, War Chests (aka loot boxes) and boosts, will go away on May 8th.

The in-game store will close permanently on July 17th. If you happen to have any Gold remaining after May 8th will be converted to in-game items. Mirian, the in-game currency which could also be used to buy War Chests, will be used for purchasing gem slots and fortress upgrades. There will be other uses for Mirian like rerolling stats, upgrading old gear and purchasing Training Orders as well.

As for why the in-game store and microtransactions were being removed, the developer stated that, “Simply being aware that they are available for purchase reduces the immersion in the world and takes away from the challenge of building your personal army and your fortresses.” Considering how some rare Orcs were obtainable through Gold Loot Chests, which required the premium currency, this is a welcome step.

Other changes that players can look forward to are updates to the Nemesis System, new “narrative elements” in the Shadow Wars end-game, player skins, expansions to the skill tree, and much more. What are your thoughts on all the changes? Let us know below.
