Dark Souls Remastered Runs At 3200X1800 On PS4 PRO, Blighttown Issues Being Looked Into

Bandai Namco's Atsuo Yoshimura also explains the lack of HDR support.

Bandai Namco’s Dark Souls Remastered is chugging along in development with a limited network test set for May 11th and 12th on Xbox One and PS4. Though the Nintendo Switch version is still a ways off, we should be revisiting all of our favourite sights in fairly gorgeous detail very soon. How good does the game look though, especially on platforms like the PS4 Pro?

According to EDGE magazine #319, the PS4 Pro version runs at 3200 X 1800 with an almost flawless 60 FPS frame rate. While some textures have been left as is, others have been replaced while some have been removed. The game boasts improved filtering overall. Interestingly enough, it lacks support for high dynamic range (HDR) lighting.

Atsuo Yoshimura, a producer for Bandai Namco, stated that this was done in order to preserve the base game’s original feel. “Our goal was to recreate and provide the original game’s feel and atmosphere on the most recent hardware. As a result, rather than focusing on displaying the game in HDR, we used the original game’s visuals as a base in order to produce what we wanted.”

As for Blighttown, easily one of the most hated areas in the game, Yoshimura noted that, “We are aware of the issue regarding Blighttown and feel about making the players feel and stressed. We have heard the voice of from the community regarding this matter and have made sure it was a topic that was looked into for the remaster.” Whether that means it will be retooled or enemies like the snipers with their toxic procs will be toned down remains to be seen.

But hey, look at it this way – it seems that jumping controls can be remapped. That’s a relatively good thing. Dark Souls Remastered will be releasing on May 25th for Xbox One and PS4. The Nintendo Switch version will be releasing in Q3 2018.
