Monolith Productions’ Middle-Earth: Shadow of War has had its share of missteps since its announcement but the developer is attempting to remedy that. A free update has gone live that, as promised, has removed any microtransactions from the game. Gold can no longer be purchased with real money and the same goes for War Chests with Legendary Orcs.

Keep in mind that the in-game Gold store is still open until July 17th. Gold will still continue to drop from in-game activities and War Chests and other items can be purchased with them. On July 17th though, the store will be removed as well with all Gold converted to in-game items.

The recent patch also brings a number of other changes like a new difficulty called Brutal, updates to Photo Mode, enhancements to the Nemesis System and much more. The Desolation of Mordor DLC has also launched today along with the patch and retails for $20. It’s included in the Season Pass and offers a new region with new items, enemies and weapons along with a new protagonist.
