PS4 Was the Leader for Software Sales for Ubisoft Again

But it seems like all platforms had healthy software sales.

Ubisoft shared the breakdown of software sales for the previous year in their latest financial report and, as has been the case for a while now, the PS4 was where they sold their software the most, with 43% of game sales over the last quarter, and 42% over the last financial year, coming from the PS4.

Xbox One climbed to second place, with 23% software sales coming from the platform- both, for the last quarter, as well as the entire fiscal year, in an amusing bit of symmetry. PC with 21% (18% for the whole year) was third place, with the Nintendo Switch coming in at fourth place with 5% of the share (7% for the entire year). Crucially, however, Ubisoft has only released three games for the Switch the entire year, compared to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, which got the whole slate- so it’s a good showing from the little hybrid regardless.

Going forward, it will be interesting to see how their software sales break down this coming year- but it is at least easy to see why publishers continue to invest in multiplatform game development. There’s too much money left on the table otherwise.
