Fortnite on Nintendo Switch Supports Voice Chat Directly On Console, Without Needing Phone App

Okay Nintendo, what the hell?

Fortnite Battle Royale

One of the biggest knocks on the Nintendo Switch so fa has been its rather terrible online service, best exemplified by the absurdity that is voice chat on the system- voice chat, you see, is not natively supported on the console. Rather, you need a smartphone app, and chat through there, if you want. It’s such a mind bogglingly stupid decision that you have to wonder what Nintendo was thinking. Is this like some kind of technical shortcoming? Maybe the Switch doesn’t have the bandwidth to support voice chat and gameplay simultaneously?

Well, no. That’s not the case at all. Fortnite, which just came out on Nintendo Switch, officially supports voice chat natively on the console- all you have to do is plug a headset into the damn thing’s headphone jack, and you’re good to go. You don’t need any stupid app or anything. It simply works as it should. This functionality will officially be activated this Thursday.

Now hold on just a minute, Nintendo- if voice chat is possible natively on the system, then what the hell? Why are you forcing us to put up with the ridiculous smartphone app setup for voice chat on your own games? That literally does not make any sense…
