EA on Women Being in Battlefield 5: Accept It, Or Don’t Buy The Game

Okay EA, you just earned a sale from me.

Battlefield 5

Battlefield 5‘s reveal ended up sending a lot of gamers into nerd rage, when it was revealed that women would be playable in the game. Unable to accept that women would now be able to play as female characters in their beloved video game, these people decided to rally around the cry of “historical inaccuracy” in a game that lets you jump off a plane, land 400 feet on the ground without inuring yourself, while shooting at a person clean through and taking them out on the way.

Of course, these people are being absurd and ridiculous. And EA has a message to them: women in Battlefield 5 are here to stay. That is not negotiable. And if these people don’t like it, they are free to not buy the game.

In an interview with Gamasutra, EA’s COO Patrick Söderlund said, “We stand up for the cause, because I think those people who don’t understand it, well, you have two choices: either accept it or don’t buy the game. I’m fine with either or.”

Which is, damn. It’s a lot like the kinds of things Bethesda said when marketing Wolfenstein 2 last year, which criticized Nazis (which, incredibly enough, actually got people upset- you’d think criticizing Nazis would be a pretty non-controversial thing to do). I don’t even like EA or Battlefield much, but guess what, EA? You’ve earned a sale from me this year.

Battlefield 5 launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC this October.
