Dying Light 2

It perhaps wasn’t too surprising that Techland announced Dying Light 2 at E3 2018, especially since rumours had leaked the announcement. However, the sequel looks like such a big leap forward that it’s impressive all the same. With Chris Avellone on board as narrative designer, player’s choices will begin to have an impact o the world around them.

Speaking to Variety, lead designer Tymon Smektala also spoke about how the gameplay has been changed. Basically, whether it’s the movement, crafting, combat or skills, “Every system is tweaked.”

Along with new moves and new ways to utilize the environment, there will be new parkour attacks. Launching through windows and over obstacles at enemies is one such tactic. There will also be “parkour puzzles” which will test a player’s parkour ability to get from one point to another.

As for combat, it’s more realistic than the first game but also more dynamic. Anticipating attacks, exploiting openings and so on are important. Players will still fashion together weapons from nearby items to attack foes. However, it’s also possible to just throw a bucket at an attacker to stun them.

If all of that wasn’t enough, Dying Light 2’s location has lot more personality on top of being bigger. Smektala noted that, “The map is four times the size of the map of the first Dying Light.”

Currently the game has a target release date of 2019 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. What are your thoughts on it thus far? Let us know in the comments.
