One of the advantages that PC gamers have over those who use consoles, is that they can make full use of mods and completely alter the way in which a game is played. Now it looks like consoles are catching up since mod support may officially be coming to the Xbox One sometime soon.

According to some internal documents accessed by Windows Central, the upcoming ‘Xbox Community Content’ program will be introducing mod support for the Xbox One. This will allow developers to determine what parts of their games are ‘moddable’, and also allow them to moderate content and decide whether to allow paid mods or not. Earlier on, some games such as Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition did feature mod support on the Xbox One, but this was made possible by measures implemented by the developers. Now, mod support would be system-wide (if these reports are true) and it means that more games on the Xbox One will probably receive various mods in the future.

The Xbox Community Content program is set to be made available later in the summer, according to the documents. The documents were from earlier in the year, and notes that a developer beta for these features would be sent along with Xbox dev kits by March. Hopefully, we’ll get to see this feature or know more soon enough.

As usual, take this report with a grain of support unless we hear directly from Microsoft themselves.
