EA recently held a closed alpha for Battlefield V, giving developers DICE the chance to have the game play-tested by larger numbers of people and to then take all their feedback into account. But of course, that’s never enough for a game as huge as Battlefield V is going to be. We’ve known for some time that there will be an open beta for the game as well, and DICE have now confirmed via an update on their official website that that will be launching early in September.

An exact date for the same still hasn’t been provided- we expect that will be confirmed as we get closer to the game’s launch, but early September is info we didn’t previously have, so it’s something. We also know, thanks to the update, that a new build of the game will also be playable at Gamescom this year, which takes place in late August.

The update goes on to talk about how it’s also been taking feedback from the closed alpha into account. This is something we reported on earlier as well, and apparently, there’s a lot of stuff from things like matchmaking and stability issues that DICE have been addressing on the basis of all the feedback they’ve received.

“There were issues with staying in your Squad between matches,” DICE’s Alexander Hassoon wrote in the update. “This did not work as intended in the Closed Alpha but will be fixed. Squad Play is vital to Battlefield V and keeping you and your squad buddies together is a big priority for us.

“The Closed Alpha also gave us insights into client and game server stability. Crashes should be as rare as possible, and though we almost hit our target for stability, we will keep working on improving that.

“Apart from aspects like matchmaking and stability, we’re also hard at work with other things, such as improving the queue system, minimizing toxicity with a potential non-cross-faction chat room, and squashing strange bugs – like a picturesque Norwegian cabin mysteriously appearing around a downed player during a revive.”

Battlefield 5 will be launching on October 16 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Apparently, according to a rumour, when it does, it’ll be coming with a total of eight multiplayer modes.
