Ubisoft are making efforts to make your choices in the game actually matter.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey promises to be the biggest shake up to the Assassin’s Creed formula yet, bigger even than last year’s Origins. That is mostly down to the fact that the game’s going to be a full-fledged RPG, complete with dialogue choices, romance options, and player choice. And if Ubisoft are to be believed, the choices players make in the story will have actual consequences, and truly impact the way it progresses.

“You can have long-term choices where you know you are making a big choice up front, and it could very well have a long-term consequence,” narrative director Mel MacCoubrey told IGN. “I wish I could give you an example for that… but I won’t.”

Ubisoft have actually been playing up just how influential players’ choices will be in the game’s story since it was officially revealed at E3 2018. Creative director Scott Phillips has said in the past that you can “make this world your own” with your choices, while recently, he also told us that player choice would also bring about greater variety in quest design.

Of course, the question remains just how the game will reconcile its choice and consequence ambitions with the fact that, after all is said and done, it still needs to maintain at least some semblance of historical accuracy. Either way, we’ll find out for ourselves when it launches on October 5 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
