Microsoft: Kinect Failed in Japan

Posted By | On 06th, Jul. 2011

Microsoft’s Kinect, the motion sensing add on peripheral to its successful Xbox 360 c0nsole, may go down in history as the highest selling video game peripheral of all time, but for Microsoft Japan, it has been nothing short of a dismal failure. Sort of like the Xbox 360 itself.

Speaking to Japanese media outlet Impress Watch, Xbox Japan boss Takashi Sensui said that Kinect hasn’t hit Microsoft’s sales targets.

He also said he hopes to give the device a lift this year with games familiar to Japanese players and titles that appeal to core gamers. These games would include titles like the much anticipated Steel Battalion.

According to Media Create data, Kinect had sold 90,000 units in Japan as of January 2, while rival PS3 motion control offering Move had shifted 170,000.
