Spider-Man: All Upcoming DLCs Will Be Set In Manhattan As Well

The webslinger isn't leaving the island anytime soon.

When you think Spider-Man, you think New York, right? More specifically, you think Manhattan. Insomniac’s Spider-Man is set entirely on the island of Manhattan, and though nearby landmarks, such as the Statue of Liberty, bridges leading to Brooklyn and other nearby areas, and ships floating past in the harbour, are all visible in the game, you can’t really get to them.

If you’re thinking those areas are being save for the three upcoming episodes of DLC- well, they’re not. They’re just there for stage dressing, since, according to Insomniac’s community director James Stevenson, it wouldn’t really feel like New York without those things.

“Those things you can see off the Manhattan Island – like the Statue of Liberty and the rafts moving about the harbour – are not fully built out,” he said while speaking with Fandom. “So they can’t be used in future DLC. They are there because it wouldn’t feel like New York without them. He can’t really get there anyway: there’s no buildings to attach your webs to [for swinging] and Spider-Man doesn’t like to swim very much.”

“It was definitely something we thought about because we didn’t want a situation like Grand Theft Auto where it tells you the bridge is out as that is weird,” he continued. “It’s more that Spider-Man doesn’t want to ditch his responsibilities in Manhattan. So all the future content for the game, which has been announced, will be set within the Manhattan Island.”

Though the three DLC episodes won’t be bringing new locations to the game, they will be adding new story content, new suits, powers, gadgets, and more. The first new suit, being added with the first DLC, The Heist, was recently revealed. Take a look hereThe Heist launches on October 23. Meanwhile, Spider-Man is out today on PS4.
