Latest PS3 model to remove HD capability with component cable

Posted By | On 13th, Jul. 2011

The latest PS3 model that is set to replace the current 160GB SKU will only be able to transmit HD signals through an HDMI cable.

This info comes from a letter sent to retailers by Sony regarding the change.

As you may have guessed, this means that players hoping to get an HD signal through a component cable will be out of luck. Maybe it’s time to splash out on that new TV with a lot of HDMI ports?

No real details are available on the new SKU at the moment. A slimmer green model has been announced for Japan, but the implication was that this wouldn’t be released in the west.

Thanks to Kotaku for the info.
