Metro Exodus Script Is Longer Than Rest of the Series Put Together

Whew lad, that’s one super long script right there.

Metro Exodus, the upcoming third entry in the post-apocalyptic shooter franchise, looks to be the most ambitious game in the series yet. A lot of this has to do with the game design, which seems to be a deft blending of open world and wide linear design, while conversely, a lot of that also has to do with just how stunning the game seems.

But it will also be the most ambitious game in the series in terms of its story, at least if the length of the script is anything to go by. Speaking to GamesCentral, Executive Producer Jon Bloch noted that the length of Metro Exodus’ script is more than the scripts for Metro 2033, Last Light, and all their DLC combined. Which is kind of insane, since those were pretty articulate games in their own right.

“Our script this time is larger than both 2033 and Last Light and all the DLC combined,” he said. “We allow players to play through guns blazing and running through the environment, but we try to encourage the more careful, thoughtful approach–absorbing the world, the story, the atmosphere.”

A lot of this may have to do with the choice and consequence based mechanics in the game, which Bloch notes are heavily emphasized this time around.

“The game certainly encourages you to take a more careful, stealthy approach to scenarios,” he said. “But the game also does react to how the players play the game. We want players to step into the shoes of Artyom and really define his personality through their actions and choices as they play. Exodus will react to the player as well and there are more opportunities along the journey where players will see that reaction and the consequences to their actions.”

Which of course is an extremely good match for a post apocalyptic game, in my opinion. Metro Exodus launches next year on February 22 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
