Next-Gen PlayStation Is “Necessary”, Says Sony CEO

Literally no one is surprised by this statement.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that we’re getting closer and closer each day to the inevitable launch of the PlayStation 5, or whatever the successor to the PS4 will be called. As far is Sony is concerned, they have pretty much the same point of view on the matter, since the company seems to believe that making a next-generation PlayStation console is almost a necessity.

While speaking with the Financial Times (via ResetEra), Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida was quizzed about the future of PlayStation, to which his response was pretty much what you might expect. Though he refused to name the next generation of PlayStation “PS5”, he did say that a next generation was, more or less, inevitable.

“At this point, what I can say is it’s necessary to have a next-generation hardware,” said Yoshida. Short and sweet.

It’s pretty much obvious at this point that within the next couple of years, the next PlayStation and the next Xbox will both probably be out in the market. Some analysts believe that might even happen by as early as 2019. In related news, recent reports have suggested that Sony might be implementing V-Sync and backwards compatibility tech in the PS5.
