Destiny 2’s Breakthrough Temporarily Removed From Competitive Crucible

Bungie has removed its newest PvP mode following numerous issues.

Destiny 2 Breakthrough

Bungie has been adding a decent amount of content to Destiny 2 since the launch of Forsaken. Not all of it has been met positively, though. The new Crucible mode, Breakthrough was originally a Weekly Featured Playlist, before moving to the permanent Competitive Playlist. However, following complaints, Bungie has finally taken the decision to disable the PvP mode as it investigates issues.

The objective of Breakthrough is to capture a Breaker at the centre of a map, following which an enemy’s Vault must be cracked. For those who play Overwatch, it’s essentially like Assault or 2CP. However, the problem arises when no one captures the Breaker a.k.a. the first point.

Highly skilled teams could effectively spawn-camp their opponents and since the round ends in a draw if no one captures the Breaker, matches can go on forever. Which would be fine if you could leave a Competitive match without any penalty to your Glory rank, but that’s not possible either. Hopefully Bungie finds a way to fix this before Breakthrough is deployed again.
