After Sony recently loosened their restrictive stance on cross-platform play by allowing Fortnite to enter a testing phase with support for the feature enabled, Psyonix soon shared an update that their own Rocket League would be receiving the functionality as well, and that though it wouldn’t happen in the immediate future, it’s something they’ve put on priority.

They’ve now shared a new update, and they’ve confirmed that the release of RocketID, their cross-platform party feature, has been delayed from its initially planned 2018 launch to 2019. Psyonix has confirmed that with Sony now have enabled cross-platform play, they’ll be able to make it even more full-featured than before.

“Before diving into what’s next, we have an update on RocketID, a feature that many of you are really excited for,” the developer wrote. “While our goal was to release RocketID before the end of 2018, we’ve made the difficult decision to push its release into early 2019. The good news is that with Sony’s recent announcements regarding full cross-platform functionality, we can now make additional changes to prepare RocketID for ALL platforms should we receive permission to do so! We’re working incredibly hard to ensure that it’s as intuitive, stable, and polished as possible, before releasing it to the world. We know the wait has been frustrating for many of you who are eager for this feature, and we thank you for your patience as we continue to work on cross-platform support.”

Not too long ago, it was also confirmed that Rocket League would be receiving Xbox One X enhancements. In the aforementioned update, Psyonix have confirmed just what these will be. On Microsoft’s enhanced console, Rocket League will now feature HDR support, and run in 4K and 60 FPS. They’ve also said that more details on the Xbox One X enhancements will be shared soon.

Rocket League is currently available on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
