Batman: Arkham Origins Studio Making “Couple” of Open World DC Universe Projects

WB Studios Montreal's Osama Dorias confirms that one is a "major console game".

Ever since Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Knight released and effectively closed the studio’s saga with the Dark Knight, we’ve heard whispers of what’s coming next. An open world Superman game? A game starring Damian Wayne? A title with multiple DC Universe heroes? As it turns out, the last one might actually be real.

However, it’ll be coming not from Rocksteady, but Batman: Arkham Origins developer Warner Bros. Studios Montreal. Senior designer Osama Dorias recently appeared on the Humans of Gaming podcast and revealed that a “couple projects” centered on the DC Universe were in development at the studio. “The project I just recently left, because there are a couple projects at [WB Games Montreal], the only thing I can say about is it’s a major console game, open world, DC Universe — so that’s really awesome.”

Sadly, it might be a while before we hear more about the product. As Osama noted, “But I can’t really say anything else. It’s too early, it’s not announced yet. But it’s really kickass.”

A self-confessed Marvel fan, Osama only has a few DC properties that he loves. He did note during the podcast that the franchise he was working is “definitely one of those DC franchises that I loved.” “I have to confess, I’m mostly a Marvel fan, but there are a few franchises from DC that have been exceptions. […] The franchise that I was working on, is definitely one of those DC franchises that I loved. It was actually one of my reasons for joining Warner Bros.”

Thanks to some digging around by ResetEra member est1992, it was revealed that Osama’s two most-loved DC properties were Batman and Superman. Could the studio’s next big open world title focus on one, if not both, of the World’s Finest? Interestingly enough, the studio did reveal in a job listing from 2015 that it was “a growing studio with two AAA projects in development focused on expanding the DC Comics universe in the interactive space.”

Whatever its next games may be, that inherent vision of expanding the DC Comics universe still seems to be in place. We’ll just have to wait, as usual, for more information.
