Dev Explains Why The Forest Is Currently A PS4 Console Exclusive, Would Love To Bring It To Xbox One

It seems like an Xbox version is not off the table yet.

The Forest

While Sony has fallen behind in this area and lost a lot of ground to Nintendo and even Microsoft with the ID@Xbox initiative, their indie outreach is still pretty strong. In fact, a lot of the work they did early in the generation is still actually paying dividends for them. It’s the reason why so many indie games are still PS4 exclusive, at least at launch.

One of these games is The Forest, from Endnight games, coming exclusively (for consoles) to the PS4, at least at launch. Why or how this is happening in an era when the Switch has proven to be a far more lucrative market for indie games, and the Xbox One X is the far more technically proficient console, is a question we asked Anna Terekhova of Endnight in an exclusive interview with GamingBolt.

“Sony had first contacted us back when the initial trailer for the game was released,” she said. “We were able to build up a really good relationship with them, and knowing that as a small team we would only be able to focus on one console at a time being exclusive for a short period of time made sense.”

That said, when we asked her about it, she said that the development team would love to bring the game to the Xbox One in the future. “We’d love to bring the game to Xbox in the future,” she said, which seems to suggest that it might be only a timed PS4 exclusive, and that an Xbox version at some point soon might not be off the table.

In the same interview, Terekhova also told us that The Forest on both, the PS4 and PS4 Pro is pretty much on equal footing as its PC version, even on high end systems. Read more on that through here.

The Forest is out now on PC, and launches for PS4 on November 6. Stay tuned to GamingBolt, our full interview with Terekhova will be live soon.
