Path of Exile Private Leagues Coming Next Week, Designed for Experienced Players

Spend money to create your own league with brutally difficult mods.

Grinding Gear Games have already announced that Path of Exile, its free to play action RPG, will be coming to PS4. The game will also see its largest expansion this year with update 3.5.0, but before that content is announced, the developer has something else in store: Private Leagues. Coming next week and purchasable by players, Private Leagues will let you modify the experience at your leisure.

This is done by adding League Difficulty Mods, which can adjust player resistances, eliminate stashes entirely, increase monster damage/life/speed, and even prevent players from buying and selling items in towns. There’s even a Famine League, which prevents your life, mana, energy shield, and flasks from refilling when going to town. Mods can’t be changed when a league begins so keep that in mind.

Private Leagues will cost 120 points and last 10 days with 10 player slots. Players can purchase additional blocks and extend the time, even when the league is ongoing, by spending more points. You can also crowdfund a league’s payment with invited players contributing to its cost. There will also be Private Challenge Leagues, which can use properties from any of challenge leagues that are currently ongoing.

As a system for content creators or hardcore players who want to push the limits of their experience, Private Leagues are pretty neat in theory. We’ll have to see how they work out next week. Expect to see them on PC first, with an expected Xbox One launch in the future.
