Nintendo Closing Down Wii U’s Facebook Page This Friday

Wii U fans around the world weep at this, both of them.

The Wii U is dead and buried. It was outsold by the Switch in one year, its best games have been pillaged and put on the Switch, a bulk of its online services such as Miiverse have been discontinued, and the console represents a dark period in Nintendo’s history that the company now seems to have moved past.

And yet, in spite of this, Nintendo still kept the official social media presence for the game console updated. Well, come tomorrow, and that will stop. At least as far as the console’s official Facebook page goes, Nintendo has announced that it will be shutting it down on Friday, November 9. Nintendo fans who are still interested in engaging with the company and its products have been told to follow the 3DS, Switch, and Nintendo pages.

“From Nintendo Land, right through to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, thank you for being part of our Wii U journey,” Nintendo said. “We’ll be closing this page on Friday, November 9th. To stay up to date with all the latest Nintendo news, join us at the Nintendo, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS pages. Thank you, and keep on gaming.”

So, that ends that. Personally, I’m not bothered by this, as the Wii U is my least favorite gaming platform of all time. However, it did have its share of fans, a lot of them, and they are currently posting memorials of their time with the console on the Facebook page. Go have a gander if you were attached to Nintendo’s grand dual screen console gaming experiment.
