Red Dead Online Beta Progress May Not Carry Over To Full Release

Rockstar hopes that player progress is permanent, but is unsure if it will be.

Red Dead Redemption 2

The Red Dead Online beta went live for all owners of the game’s Ultimate Edition yesterday, and will continue to be made accessible to everyone else in a fragmented launch throughout the course of the week. Millions are going to be diving deep into Rockstar’s latest online offering- but there’s a chance that whatever progress you make in the beta might not end up getting carried over when Red Dead Online gets its full release.

In an update on their official site, Rockstar said that while they’re hopeful that any progress made in the beta will be permanent, given that this is a beta, there’s a chance that they might have to end up implementing rank or stat resets “in case of issues”.

“We hope that all player progress during this early period of the Beta will be able to remain intact long term,” the developer wrote, “however as with many betas for large scale online experiences such as this, there is always the chance that we may need to implement rank or other stat resets in case of issues.”

So, you know, don’t get too attached to whatever character you create, because you may very well have to start from scratch whenever Red Dead Online exits the beta stage. Let’s hope Rockstar can make sure that that doesn’t happen.
