Nintendo’s gambit to leave everything to the Holidays may just pay off. The Big N, in a press release today, announced that the Nintendo Switch saw the highest sales any Nintendo console has even seen during Black Friday week in the United States. That includes consoles like the Wii, which created records with how many consoles they moved in this critical shopping period—and implies that in these five days alone, Nintendo may have moved north of 800,000 units of the Switch.
This performance is actually up by 115% over the same period in 2017, and was driven no doubt by more aggressive bundles this year, as well as the critical launch of Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! the week prior.
Given that Switch’s sales spike seems to be matched elsewhere in the world, such as in the UK and in Japan, it seems like Nintendo may come closer to meeting their projections for the year than we may have originally believed. At the very least, this performance serves to prove a whole lot of analysts who doubted Nintendo’s ability to deliver strong Switch numbers going forward wrong yet again.
