Left Alive

One of the most intriguing upcoming games from Square Enix appears to be Left Alive, the action game that has art by Yoji Shinkawa, of Metal Gear Solid fame. But while his style is very distinct and visible in the concept and promotional art, the actual game itself seems to be sadly a bit more devoid of that distinct personality that his aesthetic otherwise boasts of.

This is visible in brand new screenshots for the game that were made available by Square Enix today. The game still seems very interesting based on these, the talent working on it, and its sheer premise—but the screens definitely do not have the same distinct vibe that the promotional art for this game had.

According to information that accompanied these new screens, players will be outfitted with minimal weapons, and while trying to go in all guns blazing is an option (albeit not the smartest one), the game also allows, and even encourages, other approaches like stealth.

That said, neither stealth nor simply going all guns blazing will get you through every encounter, and you are going to be forced to switch your play style up a lot. The game’s crafting system, as well as the ability for you to improvise by picking up things and using them as weapons, or hijacking enemy weapons such as enemy tanks, further incentivized more experimentation on the player’s part.

You can check out the screens for yourself below. Left Alive launches on March 5 for PS4 and PC (February 28 in Japan). Make sure to tune into the game’s official broadcast later this week.
