EA Executive Comments On Developing Games On The PS3

Posted By | On 31st, Jul. 2011

Recently we had a chat with Aaron McHardy, gameplay producer for FIFA 12 on a series of topics regarding the upcoming football game.

Later during the interview we asked him about what he thinks about developing games for the PlayStation 3 and whether they face any difficulties coding for it.

He believes that they do face problems and challenges but every platform have problems specific to them.

GamingBolt: Marvin Donald, gameplay director for Darksiders 2, recently said in an interview that the PS3 “is a pain in the ass to work with.” Have you had any such problems developing for the PS3 or any other specific platform?

Aaron: I think all the problems we have developing are different on each platform.I don’t know if anyone is better than the rest. I think the fact that the way PS3 is architected is a little bit different than the way xenon is or the way PC is, so you have to make changes and if you make the game specifically for one platform and than try it to run on another than you can run in to some problems in trying to make that work. But we are pretty conscious about the platforms we are making our games on, as I mentioned before (in the interview) it’s exactly the same gameplay on the PS3, 360 and PC. Because we know that upfront, we design our game in a way that we know we wont run in to some big problem. So its not a big concern for us. I think the way we build our games, it really does not come in to play that one is more difficult than the other. But as I mention you do run in to problems specfic to PS3 cycle as you run in to problems specific to xenon cycle and problems specific to PC cycle. You just take them and stride. I dont know the ones any worse than the other though.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt.com for the full interview the coming week.
