Codemasters likes pushing authenticity in its video games, and it looks like they will be pushing it to the extreme with the upcoming DiRT Rally 2.0 as well, which will be launching next month. Speaking on a live stream (via Team VVV), DiRT Rally 2.0 Chief Game Designer Ross Gowing discussed one of the ways the game will do this—track degradation.

Track degradation, of course, makes sense. The forces exerted on the tarmac and terrain of a track cause it to react and deform, as well as degrade, with time. And DiRT Rally 2.0 will have a staggering 150 levels of track degradation to depict it in various stages.

The best part here is that this degradation varies based on the terrain of the track—for instance, on tarmac surfaces, the degradation can lead to the track becoming grippier but also bumpier, while on gravel surfaces, the track first becomes smoother, and then veers back to becoming uneven.

It should lead to exciting races with another dynamic to consider, at any rate. DiRT Rally 2.0 launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on February 26.
