Nintendo Not Considering Switch Price Cut Or Successor At This Time, Stands By 20 Million Units Projection

Of course, they wouldn’t admit it even if a Switch price cut was due later this year.

Nintendo has made an extremely ambitious projection of selling 20 million units of the Nintendo Switch for the financial year 2018-19 (as in through to March 31, 2019). Speaking in an interview with Japanese publication The Sankei News, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said he stands by that target, calling it “ambitious”.

Along the way, he also confirmed that for now, Nintendo is focusing only on the current Switch, and that there are no plans for either a successor or a price cut currently.

“It is an extremely ambitious, but worthwhile achievement. So, we will maintain this goal. Nintendo Switch is our primary sales objective, and we are not considering a successor or a price cut at this time,” he said (translation by Nintendo Everything).

Of course, the Switch only came out two years ago, so a successor right now would be out of the question. A revision could still happen later this year, as would a price drop, but in either case, it’s not like Nintendo would admit that right now, and sabotage sales they might otherwise accrue in the current moment.
