Sony Sending Beta Testing Invites For PS4 Update 6.50

They’re already promising no new features for this one, so pack it up.

Sony usually has two major firmware updates for the PS4 every year—one in Fall, one in Spring. With Spring coming upon us soon (though you wouldn’t believe it given the freakishly cold weather around half the world), it seems that they have begun preparing for a rollout of firmware update 6.50 for the PS4.

According to posters on ResetEra, the company has begun mailing out invitations for beta testing of the upcoming firmware update. Their email clarifies that they are not planning on introducing any major new features, and that it’s mostly a stability and security update- though to be fair, the last time they said that, they announced PSN name changes a few months later. So, who knows. There may be some big feature being kept under wraps for now this time as well.

Even if there isn’t, it’s not like Sony will be alone in releasing new firmware updates that don’t actually do anything. Nintendo recently released firmware update 7.0.0 for the Switch, that ended up doing nothing, so it just seems to be a universal thing among console manufacturers right now.
