Xbox Boss On xCloud – ‘We Want To Make Sure We Get It As Right As We Can’

Microsoft's Phil Spencer speaks about looking to the future with xCloud.

Microsoft has been very open about the huge ambitions it has for xCloud, their upcoming cloud-based streaming service. In all that we’ve heard from them so far about the service till now – and we’ve heard quite a bit – they seem to be pretty confident about how successful it can be, and what it can do for the industry. Recently, while speaking on a podcast with Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, Xbox boss Phil Spencer was once again speaking about xCloud, where he said that Microsoft are trying as hard as possible to make the service as good as they possibly can.

Spencer also admitted that it’ll be several years before xCloud becomes the primary way of playing games for the masses, but for Microsoft, as things stand right now, the service is more about looking to the future and laying down a solid foundation.

“One thing I was doing on holiday was that I was playing games on xCloud,” said Spencer. “We want to make sure we get it as right as we can. It’ll be years before this is the primary way people are playing, but let’s think about our future. We should also have these five to ten year views on where things can go.”

While there are obvious concerns for anything that is dependant on cloud technology, Microsoft seem confident that they have the infrastructure in place that would be required to make xCloud work well. We should find out soon- public trials for xCloud begin in 2019.
