Sea of Thieves Players Can Invite Three Friends to Play for Free for a Week Starting Today

Anyone who redeems a free code also gets 35% off on the game should they decide to purchase it.

There’s little doubt that Sea of Thieves has been doing very well in light of all the significant improvements that have been made to it by developers Rare, but anyone who hasn’t dipped their toes in its oceans is going to have a chance to do so soon. To coincide with the game’s most recent update, Rare has announced that it will be holding a “Friends Play Free” week for the pirate utopia adventure starting today. What that means is, if you’ve ever booted up Sea of Thieves even once, you can claim three free codes for the game and send them to your friends, who can play the game at no cost from today, up until February 13.

Anyone who does redeem a free code and feels like buying the whole game will get a better deal as well, because they will be handed a 35 per cent discount on the game, which will be in place from February 6 (which is today) to February 27. During the free week, players will also be able to participate in a limited-time Mercenary Voyage, which will entail tracking down the treasure of the Rum Runner. Completion of the quest will, of course, yield rewards, as well as Mercenary cosmetics. If you’re interested, you can get your three free codes through here (provided you’ve played the game, as mentioned earlier).

Rare also promises that it will have “big news” to share on the game’s two year anniversary on March 20- will it have something to do with the upcoming PvP mode, or is it something entirely new, like a new expansion? They didn’t go into detail, but at least there isn’t long left until we find out.

Sea of Thieves is currently available on PC and Xbox One. Rare recently clarified what its upcoming update to cross-play functionalities will entail, and why players don’t need to be worried about it. Read more about that through here.
