Apex Legends has exploded in popularity and reception from the very moment it was revealed and released, both on the same day. Its free to play nature, the spins it puts on the battle royale genre, and just its high quality in general, have all resulted in the game generating a massive userbase rapidly, one that promises to keep on growing. Given the game’s nature, though, are Respawn Entertainment and EA looking to expand its potential userbase even further by putting it on other platforms?
While speaking with Eurogamer, the game’s lead producer Drew McCoy was asked the question of whether Apex Legends will eventually make its way to the Nintendo Switch and to Android and iOS devices. According to McCoy, Respawn “would love to” make those ports happen, but as it stands right now, they have nothing to announce.
Given the popularity of fellow free to play battle royale title Fortnite on the Switch and on mobile devices, as well the success PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has seen on iOS and Android devices, this is surely an area that EA will be looking into, especially since Apex Legends is also free to play. Meanwhile, the possibility of the game receiving cross-play support in the future also makes more versions of the game an exciting prospect.
