FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is finally releasing tomorrow but in the meantime, reviews for the action adventure title have gone live. So far, it’s looking good with an average Metacritic score of 90 and 13 publications weighing in on the PS4 version. The highest score thus far is 9.5, with IGN praising the title as “an amazing new twist on a familiar set of ideas that can stand on its own alongside its predecessors.”

GameSpot awarded a provisional score of 90 with 30 hours invested so far and several locations/bosses remaining. “Sekiro marries From Software’s unique brand of gameplay with stealth action to deliver an experience that is as challenging as it is gratifying.” Game Informer was similarly enthusiastic, awarding a score of 90 and stating, “Sekiro is one of the most difficult games I have ever played, but for those seeking adventure, exploration, and a truly realized ninja fantasy, the trek is worth the high demands.”

Perhaps the “lowest” score comes from IGN Japan which criticized the repeated enemy types and upgrades being tied to success in boss battles. It did praise the combat and stealth though, noting that, “While the simplified leveling system and increased reliance on exploration make Sekiro feel even more difficult than FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series and Bloodborne, close combat battles have never been this good.”

More reviews are still to come but so far, it’s looking like another hit for FromSoftware. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is out tomorrow for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The pre-load is currently live for PC players on Steam and requires a 12.5 GB download. Check out a brief overview of the gameplay here for more information.
