Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 isn’t really an announcement a lot of people expected, but it’s one that millions are thrilled about nonetheless. As a sequel to the cult hit RPG, it has a lot to live up to, but the little we’ve heard and seen of it so far gives the impression that it’s going for the same things (or similar, at the very least) as what made the first game so fiercely beloved.

Recently, while speaking to DualShockers, the game’s creative director Martin Ka’ai Cluney gave another piece of information on the game, confirming that similar to the first title, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 won’t have a day and night cycle. In the game, according to Cluney, it is “effectively always 1:30 in the morning”. While the story will obviously progress through time, gameplay sections will always be restricted to nighttime- which makes sense, considering the tone and setting of the game.

You are a vampire, after all. At night when you’re out and about exploring Bloodlines 2’s gothic vision of Seattle, as per Cluney, “everyone’s in bed, bars are still open, but it’s too late for anyone to really do much.”

“In terms of a day/night cycle, we just didn’t want to get into it,” said Cluney. “We didn’t feel like there was enough benefit to actually supporting it. You’re always there at night, you can’t do anything in the day.”

“We do have ways to push you through the story,” he added. “You can go to sleep…and sometimes things will happen while you’re sleeping. Other times, you’ll need to sleep, vampires need rest too. So there is no day-night cycle, but we are very much pushing you through time, if not always pushing you through the story.”

Vampires: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is scheduled for a launch early next year for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
